Passenger rail is necessary throughout Ontario but especially in the north, winter weather makes driving dangerous and as we age the long distances that separate us from other parts of Ontario too difficult. The Algoma Passenger train has been mothballed, but it is still essential to many in Northern Ontario. Lodges, resorts and eco tourism businesses along that line have been hurt and some will close. The service is an economic tourism opportunity that has been eliminated. Communities along the line have lost year round access to seasonal residences and many have lost any access at all. Why has the Province of Ontario been silent about this important transportation loss?
