Volunteers urgently needed for CAPT book sale

Books, CDs, DVDs & Volunteers Urgently Needed for the upcoming CAPT Book Sale at the Station Mall:


What we need:

  • We still can use more books, CDs, DVDs, etc.

        You can drop them off at 67 Amber St.  Just call beforehand to make sure someone is home (705-            759-0733).

  • People can bring donations to the mall during the sale as well.

Volunteers are urgently needed:

  • to drive the books to the Mall,

  • lay out the books on the tables,

  • sell at the tables,

  • help box up leftover books and drive them away.


Below is the volunteer schedule.  Donna Cushley and Dorothy Macnaughton will keep the schedule up to date. It would be helpful to have as many shifts filled as possible early.

Volunteer Schedule and Times to sign-up for:


Wednesday, February 28
Volunteers with trucks, vans or cars to transport books from Ford St. and Amber St. at 4:15 to the mall and lay the books out on tables in the appropriate categories

(Dorothy and Richard look after organizing the set up) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.)

If you are available to help Dorothy and Richard for this time slot: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday let Dorothy know.  Your help would be much appreciated as this is a busy and energy consuming task.


Thursday, March 1  

We need at least two people per shift, ideally even more.  Volunteers to sell books and restock tables:

9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Friday, March 2

9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

6 p.m. to 9 p.m.


Saturday, March 3


9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

and Take Down beginning around 5 p.m. until approx. 8 p.m.

The mall is open until 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
Volunteers to pack up books into boxes and load into Richard’s trailer and perhaps another truck to take over to storage.

CAPT and NEORN very much appreciate the support shown last evening by Mayor Provenzano and the Sault Councilors for efforts to secure federal funding for the Mask-wa Oo-ta-ban (Bear Train) between SSM and Hearst. A resolution of support was passed and will be sent to Minister Marc Garneau, PM Justin Trudeau, MP Terry Sheehan and MP Carol Hughes.  They will also write a letter to the Ontario Government in support of restoring passenger train service from the Sault to Toronto.  Here is an article by Elaine Della-Mattia, Sault Star, about this:

Presentation to SSM City Council–Monday January 22 at 4:30 pm


Please plan to attend the SSM city council meeting on Monday, January 22 at 4:30 pm when CAPT will be making a presentation to City Council about the need for their ongoing support to have Transport Canada fund the Bear Train between the Sault and Hearst.

Note:The presentation will also include efforts to have passenger rail service reinstated on the existing rail beds from the Sault to North Bay and from Toronto to North Bay, Cochrane and Hearst to connect with the Bear Train from Hearst to the Sault.
